Hi Guys
I've been looking at these on the net for a while, trying to find a site close to NZ that has these, so as to reduce postage. Anyway last weekend I was walking past a toy shop in Hamilton - Jumping Jack Toys - , this was in the window, at NZ$149.99 - about half the price in Euro/Pounds/US Dollars.
Went in on Saturday and asked them to check the price, which they confirmed. I bought it real quick.

I intend to 'Militarize' it - NZ uses MB 2228s trucks which I want to use as a basis, though they are at least a generation earlier. Unfortunately I only have one photo - below - background view only. If anyone has closer pics, would really appreciate them.
Yes, the deck will hold the M41 & M26 lengthwise with out too much trouble, but the tracks overhang - 1.5cm approx, both sides, which is a bit of an issue with the loading ramps.
More pics - prob next weekend, lack of light being the issue - going to work before & getting back  after dark.

Took these - at night - & have had to enhance them a few times, but they give a better idea...
Have added polyester foam blocks stuck in above the axles, to provide a modicum of suspension.
Intend to widen the deck & loading ramps using plastruct I beams - unless I think of something better...
Had been thinking of going the sprung route, but thought KISS was better solution.

Hi Guys
Haven't done too much more, still working on the deck widening. Hopefully will post pics on Monday?

Anyway, found these pics on Primeportal - a real Actros, possibly Bundesheer - German Army - hauling a very nice looking Hummel. I think this gives you WWII - only guys, a reason to acquire an Actros, to haul your museum pieces around  :D ;D

But seriously, this Actros has a longer wheelbase than the Bruder version, plus a different trailer. Not sure at this stage if I want to stretch mine or not.

Plus a couple of pics of armoured versions, for those so inclined...

I've just had a surprise...

http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.nz/img/updates/trucks/news/201006/NZ_Army.pdf

The NZ Army is getting Actros 8X 4 trucks to Transport LAV III's.
Warning; if you try to print the pdf, it's A3.

Hi Gra
Not sure if I'll RC it or not, just concentrating on the modelling side at the mo - too many projects - this was to be Project No.5, but it jumped the gun due to the good price.

Pics below - including the underside with foam suspension, may go to springs, thinking on the how...

Done a bit more, fitted the deck extensions with 3 3mm bolts - the '41' still overhangs a tad, but lots better than it was. Have also made up wire U hoops, to fit to the deck & side extensions, to allow chain tiedown of the cargo - no pics of that yet - not fitted.

Having not touched this for a while - 4 yrs odd - have finally been able to source some of the parts I wanted from Ebay.
A low loader trailer, in red, rather than yellow, all by itself 62090-062092-162094-2 Not pictured here, but supplied, were a set of ramps.
First thing was to improve the ramps on my exisitng low loader, by widening them - take a single ramp & cut it in half, lengthwise 62096-362098-462100-5 this is only dryfit - intend to drill holes right through the ramp sides & a half and pass a brass rod thru to support the extra half.

Next, some surgery 62102-662104-762106-862108-962110-10
Why have I done this? I want a longer, 4 axle trailer, better able to accomodate my T50 ARV.  The standard Brucer low Loader is 400mm X 180mm which will accomodate a M41, but not with much breathing room & too much overhang - as previously noted.

Roughly pulled together it looks like this - 62112-1162114-12

So what about the extra bits?

Hi Guys
Bit more done. Drilled holes in the ramp sides as mentioned above, to join the two parts 62325-0 - however then decidee this wasn't a strong enough joint, so went to plan B - 62327-1 - cut slots instead.
Then marked & cut cardboard templates, then replicated these in Stainless steel mesh (used to use this for airsoft combat, replacing the plastic visors in JT paintball goggles - had the advantage of not fogging, nor reflecting light - once you painted it with matt cam colours), and slotted them into place 62329-2 62331-3
Then made up some polyester resin and poured that, having applied masking tape to the upper side of the ramp, used foam blocks to dam the long slot. 62333-4 Not sure what happened with the colour, suddenly turned blue? When set 62335-5.
Did similar with the low loader, made cardboard templates - V shape - then replicated these in SS mesh 62337-6, masked the upper joints 62339-7, poured resin 62341-8 - the pour would have been more accurate if the container I used had a proper spout - lesson for next time.
After it set, removed the masking 62343-9 underside 62345-10

For the resin pour I mixed up approx 100mls of resin with 2% hardener, which meant I did all the above plus a bit leftover.
I used the leftovers in my T50 ARV  BEFORE 62347-0 AFTER 62349-1 just filled the depressions.

While I was waiting for the resin to harden, made these 62351-2 - Chocolate Scones  ;D

Done a tad more
These pics show the plastruct I beam spacers glued to the RHS of the deck, still have to do the LHS 62363-062365-162367-2
Have also cut the aluminium L angle that will go outboard of the spacers, but haven't bent the end of it yet & no pics as yet.

The stretched Bruder low loader – 4 axle plus, which I’ve constructed, has a load deck of 535mm X 180mm. As above I’m intending to add 12 mm Aluminium L angle to the sides, plus Plastruct I Beams – 6mm - as spacers between the deck & L angle, giving a total width of 218mm.

The standard Bruder trailer – low loader – 3 axle, has a load deck measuring 400 mm X 180 mm.
If you require to load Challenger II, Abrams M1, Leopard 2A6 or a ZTZ99,  the deck needs to be larger.

Challenger II – Hull length - 8300 cm – Hull Width – 3500 cm,
1/16th  - Hull Length - 518.75mm – Hull Width – 218.75mm

Abrams M1 – Hull Length – 312 inch or 7924.8mm – Hull Width 144 inch or 3657.6mm
1/16th – Hull Length – 495.3mm – Hull Width – 228.6mm

Leopard 2A6 – Hull Length 7.70m – Hull Width 3.7m
1/16th – Hull Length – 481.25mm – Hull Width – 231.25mm

ZTZ99 – Hull Length 7.80m – Hull width 3.40m
1/16th Hull Length – 487mm, - Hull Width – 212.5mm

Vehicle lengths found on the net, in various places. Hopefully the HL model measurements are close to these?

Hi, more done, mostly work on the Aluminium L Angle side reinforcement/extenders. I'll be mounting these with 2.5mm countersunk bolts, hoping to use 12mm, but have 25mm if need be.
So, had some holes to drill 62431-0 these being 2.5mm holes, matched to the spacing of the I beams (post Oct 15), then decided I needed more holes (1mm) for tie downs, put these in at 5 cm centres, giving 10 holes per side. I'm making wire rings for these, if I had gone with a wire U shape, would have needed 20 holes per side.62433-1

Made the wire rings, with tails 62439-2, having placed these tail 1st in the holes, I threaded a brass tube through them to keep them in line, then placed them in the vice to hold while I spread the tails 62441-3.
Then applied Al tape to the tails, to hold them in place 62435-4. Withdrew the brass tube, then applied wire glue to fix & fill the wire rings in place 62437-5.

Had previously removed the front wall from the trailer, as I want to mount spare wheels there,as the lack of space means the wall has to be moved back a tad & reinforced to accomodate the spares 62443-662445-7 still need to attach this, will probably bolt it via L angle.

Came up with a slightly different method of attachment. Used some Evergreen plastic rectangular tube, cutting it to fit, then glued in place. it overlaps the bottom of the wall, which was also glued in place. 62482-062484-162486-2

As the sunlight was beaming in this morning, thought it was a good opportunity to take these. 62488-362490-462492-562494-662496-7 Still haven't fitted the L angle, hopefully will do that this long weekend - Labour day here in NZ.

More progress - bent the ends of the L angle using the vice 62569-062571-1
Now ready to attach them to the sides, mounted the trailer in the table vice 62573-262575-3 clamping the L angle in place, then drilling 2.5mm holes for the bolts.
This pic shows how the bend in the L angle fits 62577-4 these pics show the balance with the spacing 62579-562581-6.
Had some difficulty with the bolts, where they go over the wheels, there is no access to attach the nuts 62583-762585-862587-962589-10
May just leave them as is, or maybe glue them?

Forgot to mention, ended up using 25mm bolts, the 12mm were a tad too short.
Trailer now looks like this up top 62591-062593-1
It accomodates the M26 62595-262597-362599-462601-562603-6

The primary reason I stretched it - so the T50 ARV 6 wheel hull would fit comfortably 62605-7 in comparison to the M26 62607-8

Realised that I needed to fit the new wider ramps, but had to do a mod to do so 62609-962611-10 with the extra space that cut provides, they just twist into place 62613-1162615-1262617-13

in my post of 29/9/2014, I posed this question "So what about the extra bits?"

The answer 62631-062633-162635-2  I Have a 2nd Low loader to modify, though this one is a MAN truck. Hopefully will have a crack at this over Xmas. The pics also shows the difference in length between the standard 3 axle & modified 4 axle trailers.
The reason I have the 2nd truck & trailer - in my attempts to obtain just the trailer, I approached my local ToyWorld to see if they could get one, after a considerable delay - several months - they eventually told me no, they couldn't get it. Then a couple of months later I happened to drop by, and was told they had my trailer. When they brought it out, it also included the truck.
Decided to keep them both - the beginings of "We got a great big convoy, Rocking thru the night...10/4"

A bit more done.
Wanted to capture the look of this 62823-0 with the coiled brake/air lines. Found these coiled key ring strap thingys (technical term) at my local $2.00 shop 62825-1.
Removed the rings from each end, then drilled holes in the trailer & truck, into which I emplaced short lengths of brass tube 62827-262829-3 to fit the coiled lines ends 62831-4.
Then attached the trailer 62833-5 side view 62835-6. While doing this, manged to knock off the trailers glued spare tyres & their wall attachment.

This is it after I glued them back & replaced the trucks spare 62837-7

2 things concern me re this - should the coils be shorter & are they too thick?

Spent some time working on the low loader.
Being a composite bitsa, I decided it was in need of some paint, apart from the tyres. So masking those was required – 90547-0 – one side done – what I’m using, Glad Press & Seal – a more aggressive version of cling wrap – 90549-1.
Gone on to the paint – Tamiya rattle can Grey primer – 90551-290553-390555-4– underside – 90557-590559-690561-7
