Hi Ad Lav
Re the idler - not yet, been waiting on tap & die set for 2.5mm, as it looks as if the ally figure 8's need to be threaded internally. Parcel arrived this morning, so possibly soon, though have a family Xmas event this Sunday that will cut into my build schedule.

I'll have to watch that bit closely - been tempted by a custom idler system.

Not a lot of progress to report – having rec’d the piano hinge, I cut it & dry fitted it – 81261-081263-181265-281267-3– as can be seen, the hinges are way out of scale – they measure 2mm in height – 32mm (1 Ό in) in 1/1 scale. So either I figure out a slimmer version, a different system or forget it.

Started on adding detail to the deflector, made an edge reinforcement with brass wire – 81269-4 intending to solder it, holding the bits in place using rare earth magnets 81271-5 which is when I learnt an interesting fact about magnets – they can be demagnetized with heat. So when I ran the blow torch over them, they suddenly stopped being magnets, and the deflector rolled a bit 81273-681275-7

Didn’t get more done – had a family Xmas party to attend.

Hi Wobbly
Thanks

Not a lot of progress to report – started working on the Horstmann bogies, cutting out the parts, cleaning them up, assembly etc.
First the inner parts 81324-081326-181328-2 then the outer bits 81330-3
Took quite a while, on one side of the sprue sheets the CNC cuts are not quite all the way through, so the saw toothed scalpel got a lot of use 81332-4 the parts require a lot of clean-up 81334-5 assembled 81336-6

Figured out how to do the turret stowage box lids, but ran out of time to do them.

Me too. Wish he'd hurry it up though  :(

Hang on , that's me ;D

Might be a while, still need to figure out which size & length of bolts are required. Asked Chris, said he was using 3mm (M3?), but didn't advise lengths & numbers.

I thought it came with all the wheel bolts and bits?

Mine seems to have them.

Must admit I've not touched mine but have gone through the parts several times.

There were some mini bolts - 30 x 2 X 2mm Hex bolts for the sprocket rings - but other than that, you have to supply your own - unless Chris has modified the kit since?
Once I've sorted the required size & lengths, I'll add it to that Parts list spreadsheet I sent you & Chris.

Did you check your parts against it?

I haven't done anything to the kit as I am finishing off the VK. Once that's done I am onto the centurion.

Will cross check the parts when I sit down to concentrate with it. I did get wheel bolts though, will email you a photo.

Hi Ad Lav
Wheel bolts - lucky you. You wouldn't want to list the sizes (M3? X 20mm?) & numbers too?

Here’s what I’m doing with the turret stowage box lids – basically just turned them upside down, so they don’t stand so high. Chamfered the edges of the box, under the hinge, so that it would sit better, only pinned in place at the mo, will glue as well 81372-081374-1

Cent Work - this is a catch up post – cut out the parts for the shock absorber lever housings –81796-0- glued together – 81798-1 - detail bits – 81800-2 - (lots of clean up required)
Added oil filler point detail – 81802-381804-481806-581808-6– should add bolt detail too, but need to get those first. There are two variations, early ones have the oil filler point high on the ends, later ones lower & mid mounted , with a blanking plate covering the earlier position – 81810-7 – late left, early right - 81812-8
Attached the RHS long bin to the hooks I made, reasonably secure without gluing – 81814-981816-10– added the hinge to the long bin – 81818-1181820-12 – had to shape it a bit, not yet glued
Also got an Aber 30 Cal, it’s not for my Cent (for my M26A1) as that would make it a Mk5, rather than a Mk3 but it fits the coax position – 81822-1381824-14

Made a start on assembling the Horstmann bogies, though the lugs on the sides are too large, so cut them down a bit – 81826-081828-1– comparison – 81830-2
The central cover on the bogies needs to be curved, in order to do that in duplicate, I made this jig – 81832-3 – which is placed in the vice – 81834-4 – the cover in front. I was dipping the cover in hot water, then bending the cover back, however the vice acted as a heat sink, so need to figure out another way.

Unpacked the HL Pz III return roller supports – 81836-5 – on early Cent’s there should be 5 return rollers per side – 4 full & a half one at the rear , later Cent’s have 6 return rollers – 4 full & a half one at both front & rear. There are only 8 support units, not sure how the half one is attached.

The Plastic bits to which the supports attach – 81838-6 -  & the 3D rollers – tyres painted black – 81840-7. As Longsheep noted, the HL Pz III roller axles are too short. Need to address this before proceeding.

Cut out the exhaust parts  plastic – 81842-0– brass & 3D – 81844-181846-2. For the internal tubes, used styrene tube – 81848-3.
For the outer shields, applied the blow torch & bent the brass – 81850-4  Styrene parts in place on the fenders without brass bits –81852-5- + 1 brass bit – 81854-6 - + 2 brass bits – 81856-7 –

To do the inner exhaust, I made up a form/jig to bend the brass around, it consists of a large Plastruct H beam & 2 brass tubes, sufficient for the strapping part to fit over – 81858-8. Then follows the heating & bending of the brass plate in the vice – 81860-981862-1081864-1181866-12– followed by a bit of hammering, then fitting the strapping part – 81868-13 – released from the vice - 81870-14

Re the Horstmann bogies, figured out another way to curve the covers. Placed a stainless tube in the vice, heated it with my blowtorch, laid a piece of non-stick cooking paper over it, then applied the plastic cover & bent it over the heated tube – 81887-0 -  The cooking paper prevented the plastic from melting on to the tube. Repeated this for the 6 covers – 81889-181891-2-  Glued the ‘under cover’ to the covers-  81893-3 – Then glued the ends, had to squeeze these into place with the vice-  81895-481897-581899-6-  Then glued on the box section – 81901-781903-8– then added the shock absorber mounts – 81905-9 -  then the bump stops – 81907-10 – didn’t get a pic of them in place, but can be seen in this pic of the Horstmann bogies dry fitted to the hull – 81909-11

Fixed the problem with the bearings not quite fitting into the road wheels, used a diamond grit covered hole saw to grind out the bearing seat a bit. The bearing is 8mm OD, the hole saw 7.5mm – 81911-12 –

Slight change of direction – 81913-1381915-1481917-15– fitted the 165mm howitzer & dozer blade from my M41 AVRNZE project to see how it would look. Fenders just dry fitted, hence the sag.

Very little to report, we just had a long 3 day weekend, which should have been quite productive, however I decided to catch a cold instead, so progress took a back seat.
Looked at making up the Centurion towing hawser (tow Rope) from 1.5mm wire rope. It needs to be 278.12 mm long – based on my 1/25th Tamiya Centurion one – 178mm long (This is the shorter version, for non LR fuel tank equipped Cents).
Made a jig using squared C section Ally extrusion & tied it together with cables ties, prior to wrapping the cables, but realised I need a braided wire cutter, to cleanly cut the wire rope. Also need to make the uprights on the ends of the jig taller so that I can wrap the cables easier – the extrusion being too close otherwise.

Looked at what size bolts I’ll need for the wheels & suspension, have made an order for M2.5 & M3 bolts, plus have asked Chris for more of the M1.2 sized ones.
Cut a couple of brass tube spacers (4mm OD) for the road wheels – 9.5mm long, but need 12 of them.
Also made some Ally tube spacers for the PZ III shock absorbers that mount on the Horstmann bogies.
Also cut a brass tube spacer for part of the Horstmann bogies – also need 12 - which is the only pic I took – 82027-0

Did you hear that Mark & Gill are looking for buyers for Armortek?

A bit more done
Had a thought a while ago about the Elephant tracks that Chris supplies – they are reasonably close to Cent tracks, unless you look closely – the biggest give away is the squared ends. – 82052-0- So I modified some of mine accordingly – 82054-1 – the 3 on the left are standard, the 2 on the right modified.
Placed each link in the vice – 82056-282058-3– grinding the angle with my dremel cut off wheel – end result – 82060-4 – upper set modified, lower set standard. Found I could do 4 in the vice at a time by setting the track on end, a good rainy day project.
Unfortunately, they’re not suitable as a stowage item – they’re usually stowed on the glacis, guide side up  - 82062-5– which gives too good of a view to see they’re not Cent tracks – 82064-682066-7

Did some work on the loaders hatch, composed of a bunch of parts from various sheets – 82068-0 - locating, excising & cleaning up the parts is fairly time consuming. There should be 2 more parts in this shot – the parts at far left & right should be 2 of each, not just 1 – 2nd set added pic 2511.
Also excised these – 82070-1 – T/C’s sighting vane – had seen the ‘r’ shaped piece & wondered where it went – hopefully this is the right spot – 82072-2.

Sequential assembly of the hatch – 82074-382076-482078-582080-682082-782084-8– which is where I figured out I made a mistake.
The turret top hinges are composed of 3 bits, the centre one is a stepped piece, one end low, the other high. I glued the high end in line with the rings – the two outer bits. Unfortunately this means that the hatch hinge does not sit deep enough, and the rings don’t align, so the hatch hinge pin won’t fit. Ended up pulling the pieces apart with the pliers – 82086-982088-10– and fixed – 82090-1182092-12. Added extra splash guards – 82094-13
Also added the water filler cap on the hull & hinges for the drivers hatch - 82096-14

 Hi Wobbly
Thanks, but not sure I believe it.

My bolt order arrived, so got to work on the suspension. Basically that work consisted of cutting threads into the Ally swing arms with a 2.5 mm Tap, with a drop of cutting fluid, to join the two halves together at the mid T hole, with a M2.5 X 8mm bolt with locking nut on the reverse – 82268-082270-1–
Rather tedious job, a bit like joining track links, but more fiddly, and less satisfying.
Also have to do the same for the hole at the top of the upside down T, had got M2.5 X 6mm bolts for that (no nut), but looks like M2.5X 8mm (with split lock washer & nut) might be the better option.

Did more work on the loaders hatch, this time, on the inside, based on my Tamiya 1/25 Cent  - 82272-2 – made catches from 1mm styrene sheet – 82274-3 – also cut washers – 82276-4 – but didn’t use the washers – too thick, instead made wire washers & brass handles – 82278-582280-6– drew on the hatch pad - 82282-782284-8– cut it out of 1mm styrene – 82286-9, then covered it with foam sheet as per the T/C’s hatch – 82288-10

For the other half of the hatch – 82290-082292-182294-282296-3– same process, different shape.
To finish off where the handles penetrate the hatch exterior, I cut short lengths of Ally tube & glued them in place – 82298-4–

Also finally glued the hinges to the turret stowage boxes – 82300-582302-682304-7– the long box suffered leaking glue. Fitted the boxes in place –82306-882308-982310-1082312-11– managed to open the long box, using pliers.
Fitted the hold open boxes either sides of the drivers hatch – 82314-1282316-13– the actual hatch/hinge fitting requires more work, maybe moving a hinge.

More done on the Cent – made up latches out of wire, for the fender stowage boxes – 82404-0 -  Then turned to making hinges – cut 12 blocks of 2.5mm styrene, and cut a slot into each by groups of 4 – 82406-182408-2– then cut lengths of piano wire – 82410-3 -  then fitted them to the stowage boxes – 82412-4 – both sides – 82414-5 –
Also made a strap for the loaders hatch – 82416-682418-7–
Having seen this in the Tamiya Cent assembly guide – 82420-8 – thought I might do similar, so took some Plastruct L angle & cut it accordingly & drilled 2.5mm holes as shown – 82422-9 – The L angle is to go at the back of the smaller stowage boxes – 82424-1082426-11-  M2.5  X 12mm bolts fitted to the holes – 82428-12 – emplaced – 82430-1382432-14–
