How to install Clark TK20 boards
« on: November 20, 2012, 02:33:14 PM »
Ok, has anyone on this forum, or anywhere on the planet, actually succefully installed a Clark TK20 board into their tank, particulalry a Heng Long.  If so, I would greatly appreciated your advice and clear instructions on how to do it, incluidng step by step pictures.  The instructions on the Clark site are crap.  So far, my experience with the TK20 has not ben good and it is nearly ready for the bin - at least the RC2HL boards and MAMBA etc work and truly are 'plug and play'.

To add to my previous post, I am using a Hobby King transmitter.  The Clark instructions reference trims 1, 2, 3, 4 - which bloody trims accord with Clark's 1,2,3,4?

Update - I got forward/reverse and left/right motion happening and turret traverse.  I mucked about swapping cables on the reciever.  However, no start up, sound of any sort or gun elevation. The only 'plug'n'play' so far is playing with plugs :o

I should have a Clark board next week so if you're still having issues I might be able to help out.

Any words of wisdom on these bloody Clark units would be very much appreciated.  So far, I would not recommend them to anyone.

Tried mucking about with the Clark TK20 again last night. Still no joy. Piece of s**t.  I would not recommend these boards.  I will wait for the Taipan - at least Kevins stuff works.

Thanks Reyemmanuel - can you post some still photos of how you have the TK20 wired up and how you have it wired to the reciever.  For the life of me I can't get this damn thing to work no matter which way I wire it up.

Hi Adamc,

If your using the Turnigy 9x, the TK20E wire goes to the receiver as according to the direction indicated (i.e., black arrow). With the Receiver facing you, insert the TK20E wires such that the white wire is at the outermost, the red in the middle and black at the rear.

I used CH1 to CH4 to correspond to the TK20E's pin out.

see the pic below for reference if this helps  ;)

Rey
I have tried reinstalling the TK20 but no luck.  What exactly was your procedure for installing the TK20? What transmitter are you using?  All I get is backward/forward movement and turret rotation.

Update.  Tried the TK20 in a new tank with a new reciever etc.  Nothing - just backward/forward.  Nothing happened that was supposed to happen.  Verdict - crap.  I will wait for the Taipen.  At least I have confidence it will work.

Hi Adamc,

Sorry to hear you haven't had luck with the TK20E. I'm using Turnigy 9x, set at stick mode 2. The engine start-up, MG, lights and gun elevation moves  as per Clark's website instructions. Could be a bad board?

What radio r u using?

I have tried both a Hobby King and a Turnigy 9x.  The board is obviously faulty. I would be keen to try another one and see how it goes.

This will come in handy for me as i just purchased a TK-22 board from Mark at Oz Armour. Its for my HL King Tiger. Hope its not going to drive me up the wall.

P-s. Just read the Post that Rey put up. Thanks rey, Thats an easy step by step way of how to fit it.

Here is a pic or 2 of how the wires should hook up if anyone wants to use it for a bit of a reference. Its a TK22 board using a TK22 compatable hammerhead from RC tank Oz. And turnigy 9x transmitter and reciever (were the 4 black-red-and white wires hook into) The RC tank Oz hammerhead has already done the homework in relation to wiring up the battle imitter and infrared Receiver and is a straight plug and play. I am also using a Heng Long high intensity flasher unit that runs up threw the main gun barrel. and the rest of the board id stuffed up inside the turret. I have also used the RC tank Oz universal tv remote and clarks instructions to tune and adjust the clark board to siut my style. Ive never been big on electrics, but the more i read into it the easyer it seems to work for me.
